The Effect of Covid-19 on Business in America

During the nationwide lockdown, one big reason for the large amount of panic was related to Business. Small Business owners were heavily impacted when all of their businesses got shut down. The small businesses suffered the most since a lot of their stores were not online and people had to come to the store to shop.

Restaurants were also heavily impacted because they had to do all their services via online ordering, which made people want to eat food from their less. People in America generally like the restaurant experience and the feel of dining in person, which caused the overall revenue of these restaurants to decline. In response to this decline, restaurants even increased prices of foods, which made customers not want to buy food from outside even more. I personally feel bad for the restaurants the most since they easily suffered the most out of all the local businesses.

For most companies the pandemic was brutal for them, but for Amazon this was the opposite case. I feel as though Amazon got super lucky with the pandemic because everybody was shopping online, and since Amazon is the staple online business, many people decided to shop on Amazon. All of this business from Amazon even made the Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos a trillionaire. I think that being a trillionaire is almost too much money because that is like buying 1,000,000 Ferraris.

The pandemic also caused larger businesses to become more corrupt. A good amount of the larger banks and firms choose to take advantage of smaller income people. In one apartment the larger firms bought out the houses and forced the current residents to leave since they couldn't pay their mortgage. This is very immoral and just shows that the larger business firms have no compassion and will do whatever it takes to benefit their own cause. This was only one example of the many corrupt things that went on as a result of the pandemic.

The local businesses that aren't restaurants also suffered very much in result to the pandemic. Businesses like Elevate, Monkey Joes, and other forms of recreation suffered because the activities required lots of contact while being in closed places. This caused people to shy away from coming to these recreational places to avoid the risk of covid. To me this is also one of the worst ways a business could be impacted because the business itself couldn't even be run anymore since it relies 100 percent on visitors.

All in all, the small businesses have been severely impacted in a negative way by the pandemic. It is hard to think about the struggles small business owners and workers are going through if you aren't in their position, but we should try and do so to help them out in any way we can. We can help by promoting and raising awareness for the small businesses to increase their revenue. Just think of how you would feel in their position right now!

This blog is great! I think it is awesome that it brings attention to how small businesses are suffering do to the pandemic. We should all do our part and, when feasible, purchase things from small businesses in our area. It was also informative because I had no idea that Amazons increase in sales do to covid had made Jeff Bezos a trillionaire. I would have to agree that it is too much money for one person to have.
